Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, is the preparation of a website in order to feature highly in the search engines. There are many elements to this process and each is as important as the others.
Keyword Research
It is important to identify which keywords are popular and which ones to use on any given project, however, if a client is on a budget for their online marketing (£1500 - 6000 one off payment), it is essential to make use of as many combinations of keywords as possible. An example of a typical project would be the following (please remember this is just an example),
A client sells cars in Knightsbridge, London. They want to concentrate on 5 keywords and bring in as much traffic as possible. Their 5 keywords are:
- Car sales Knightsbridge
- Knightsbridge car sales
- Buy cars in Knightsbridge
- Cars for sale Knightsbridge
- Buy a car in Knightsbridge
The estimated traffic per day is 100 visitors for these keywords, subject to their website appearing in the top 3 results of all search engines.
This seems quite sensible as it appears to be the keywords most associated with what the client offers. Typically in this situation Exit Low looks at the keywords and the Industry and finds that there are more specific keywords/phrases that will bring much more traffic to the site, for example:
- Mercedes dealers in Knightsbridge
- Knightsbridge cars, bmw
- Cars for sale west London
- New cars west London, Knightsbridge
- West cars for sale, London
In essence what has happened is, through experience, we would have found an additional 5/10 keywords which will triple/quadruple traffic and increase sales substantially.
Users (people surfing the Internet) are incredible creatures and the phrases they use to search are almost always not grammatically correct (e.g. cars London Knightsbridge) nor area specific (e.g. west London bmw sales).
Exit Low will provide the client with a keyword analysis report before coding starts.
Coding Client's existing/new website
Once we have established the keywords we want to concentrate on it is time to begin coding the new website.
In most cases the website look and feel does not change at all but the code behind the website always does. There are certain pieces of code that need to be included in a site in order for it to achieve a high ranking in the search engines.
We take care of the re-coding and it is possible for a client to give Exit Low direct access to their web space or zip up their site and make the code available, which we will send back once the necessary changes have been made.
Once the coding is completed then we can begin the process of search engine promotion.
